Bird’s Eye View

I enjoy problem solving… how to connect components to create a believable story and hopefully when all is said and done it visually flows well.  I was working on a rather intricate piece today. A cardinal emerged from Steve’s shoppe, beautifully carved. In the studio I brushed on layers of paint, obviously brilliant red, accentuating shape and lines. Sitting in front of me, I wondered, What does he see? How does he view his world?

Several years ago, I saw my world through the lens of a camera and realized my perspectives are better communicated through a paintbrush & micron pen. I have extraordinary photographers in my life and am amazed at their remarkable perspective of life and the timeless images they share. That said, I resurrected a 35mm Yashica living at the bottom of a box of keepsakes. I took it apart piece by piece, sorting tiny circuit boards, screws, mirrors, eyepieces and shutters. What would this cardinal see if he looked through the lens of a camera? “Bird’s Eye View” is a play on perspective. Enjoy.
