Rivets

A 4” x 4” post of fir, Alaskan yellow cedar, brass fitting and hole saw made their way to my bench in the form of a rocket ship.  The post, hand rounded and tapered with fins of cedar and powered by an engine of brass and steel, expertly fit for flight.  It was my challenge to make the “skin”. Plates of metal riveted together to withstand reentry.  Once I settled on the technique to paint the rivets, the metallic plates fit well together.  I never know what will come from the wood shop, but I am always delighted to be instrumental in what’s next.
